Volume is multiplied by the submitted planning density. One cubic yard of different gravel products can weigh differently, so the material preset or supplier density is part of the calculation—not a universal conversion factor.
A cubic yard is volume; a US short ton is 2,000 pounds of weight. Density connects the two. Metric tonnes are shown separately and mean 1,000 kilograms.
An allowance can cover compaction, uneven grade, spillage, and project variation. It is applied before purchase weight, cost, and truck loads, but no single percentage is required for every project.
Match the pricing basis to the quote: purchase short tons for per-ton pricing, planning cubic-yard order for per-yard pricing, or whole bags for per-bag pricing. Delivery, tax, and labor remain outside this estimate.
Purchase short tons divided by selected capacity gives theoretical loads; rounding up gives whole trips. Actual payload depends on the truck, trailer, regulations, route, and material condition.

It depends on the gravel product and condition. The calculator's planning presets span common aggregate categories, but they are estimates rather than physical guarantees. Ask the supplier for product-specific bulk density or a tons-per-yard conversion before ordering.
The appropriate allowance depends on the site and project. Values such as 5%, 10%, or 15% can help plan for uneven grade, compaction, spillage, and variation, but 10% is not automatically correct for every job. Enter 0% when no allowance should be applied.
Suppliers may sell bulk gravel by US short ton or by cubic yard, while smaller quantities may be bagged. A cubic yard measures volume and a ton measures weight, so compare a quote using the same pricing basis and density assumption as the estimate.
Capacity varies by truck, trailer, axle limits, local regulations, and material condition. Select a planning capacity to estimate exact load equivalents and whole trips, then confirm the actual legal payload and delivery policy with the carrier.

Yes. Pea gravel, crushed stone, limestone, river rock, decomposed granite, and other aggregates can have different bulk densities. Moisture, particle grading, void space, compaction, and source also change actual weight, even within one named category.
Divide purchase cubic feet including waste by the volume printed on one bag and round up to a whole bag. Package volumes vary by brand, so select a preset only for planning or enter the actual package volume.
