Flooring Calculation Example for a 300 sq ft Room
Follow a 300 sq ft net floor through a stated waste allowance, 20 sq ft package coverage, and whole-box purchasing.
Introduction
This example begins after the room has been measured and all non-flooring zones have been removed: the net installed floor area is 300 sq ft. That measured area never changes when waste or package rounding is added.
The example uses 10% waste and an explicitly illustrative box coverage of 20 ft². The calculator therefore targets 330 ft², needs 16.5 boxes mathematically, and rounds up to 17 boxes. The purchased area is 340 ft².

Use judgment openly
Package thresholds create a stepped result
The chart changes only waste percentage. Required coverage rises smoothly, but box count changes only when the target crosses another 20 ft² package boundary.
A higher box count is not evidence that the floor became larger. It reflects the selected planning allowance plus the indivisibility of the package.

The room is 300 ft²; 330 ft² is the purchase target after waste.
Assuming every box covers 20 ft²
Coverage is a product input and must be verified.
Rounding 16.5 down
A partial box cannot cover the remaining target, so the function uses Math.ceil.
Adding package overage as another waste percent
The 10 ft² packaging overage already results from full-box rounding.
