Use judgment openly
Thickness changes tons only through volume
The chart keeps the 480 ft² area and 145 lb/ft³ density fixed and removes allowance. Each extra inch adds another 40 ft³ of compacted volume, so the weight estimate changes linearly.
The chart does not prescribe thickness. It illustrates why an incorrect depth entry has a direct, material effect on the tonnage estimate.
